What is new?
The Bundestag and Bundesrat have passed the Retirement Savings Reform Act (Altersvorsorgereformgesetz); it was announced in May 2026. New features are a subsidized depot without a guarantee, a standard depot with limited effective costs and a higher, contribution-dependent allowance.
Who is affected?
Everyone who wants to save privately for old age or already has a Riester contract. Self-employed people can also be newly eligible for subsidies.
What should you do?
Existing Riester contracts continue to run. New contracts will be available from January 1, 2027.
