Child benefit to be paid without an application more often from 2027

The adopted law introduces automatic payments in stages. It does not apply immediately or to every family.

What is new?

In certain cases, the Familienkasse should be able to pay child benefit automatically after a birth. It will still check whether the conditions are met. If data is missing or something is unclear, an application may still be necessary.

Who is affected?

The first stage affects families already receiving child benefit for at least one child. Later it should also be possible for a first child under certain conditions: a parent and the child live in Germany, an IBAN is known and at least one parent works here.

What should you do?

Was your child born before the start, or have you received no message and no payment? Then don't just wait. Read the Familienkasse's information and apply if needed.

When does it apply?

The rollout is planned in two stages in 2027: from spring for additional children where child benefit is already paid, and towards the end of the year for a first child under certain conditions.
