What happens next?

The decision does not make online registration available everywhere immediately. Further steps and connections for municipalities are still needed. You do not need to wait if you are moving now.

More about the decision

The rule is called IT-Komponentenverordnung (ITKV). It concerns the shared online service for authorities. It does not require you to register online. Approval by the Bundesrat and publication of the regulation are further steps. No nationwide start date is confirmed yet.
