Work

When something is seriously wrong

Recognise signs of exploitation at work and find free help.

Sometimes things at work don't just go a little wrong but fundamentally wrong. There are specialised counselling services for this.

Myth: Without a written contract or in a mini-job I have no rights.

Fact: No. Even then, for example, the minimum wage, paid holiday and pay during illness apply.

Signs you should take seriously

Is one or more of these things happening to you?

What should you check?

  • 💶 Your pay does not come, comes late or is clearly too low.
  • 🛂 Someone keeps your passport or ID.
  • 🏠 A lot is deducted from your pay for housing or transport.
  • ⏰ You work very long hours without breaks or days off.
  • 😟 You are threatened or put under pressure.

What you can do

  1. 1Write down your working hours and all payments.
  2. 2Take photos of documents, payslips and messages.
  3. 3Contact an advice centre such as Faire Integration – free, confidential and in many languages.
  4. 4In case of violence or acute danger, call the police: 110.
