Work

Health and safety at work (Arbeitsschutz)

How your employer must protect you and what you can do yourself.

Your employer must make sure that you stay healthy and safe at work.

The essentials

  • The employer assesses the risks at the workplace and takes protective measures.
  • You are instructed how to work safely – before you start and when something changes.
  • You must follow the safety rules and use protective equipment correctly.
  • You may raise safety problems and make suggestions.

Myth: I have to pay for protective clothing and safety shoes myself.

Fact: No. The employer may not pass the costs of necessary safety measures on to employees.
